Support Our Shelter Animals Project - Our First Highlighted Shelter!

This is the first Michigan animal shelter we are highlighting for our Support Our Shelter Animals Project: Clare County Animal Shelter.

This shelter is located in the northern, central part of MI and has a county population of about 30,000 residents. This is a rural area where 20.6% of residents live at or below the US poverty level.

Rudi Hicks became director of this shelter in 2014, after working as an animal control officer since 2012. When Rudi started, their adoption rate was around 48%. Today, it is around 95%!

Clare Co Animal Shelter was recognized in 2015 as the Most Improved Shelter and as Shelter of the Year in 2017. A a great staff and volunteers all work towards getting the homeless animals into permanent homes. They started a trap-neuter-return program this year too!

This municipal shelter is doing great things but could use our help! Here is a needs list for this shelter. Please consider helping by purchasing items from Chewy, Amazon and others. They will gladly accept like new items too! If you would like to drop off or mail items, including monetary donations, please contact Rudi at (989) 539-3221or on Facebook
